Dr. Randall Hansen does an incredible service for all of us, compiling amazing stories of people healing debilitating conditions and traumatic life experiences through intentional journeying with psychedelic medicines. This book demystifies and destigmatizes this still all too often misunderstood and underappreciated modality of healing, that promises to help so many who are trapped in anguish and suffering. I’m grateful that the power of these first-person accounts, along with Dr. Hansen’s insightful writing, will help people feel comfortable accessing what in many cases can be literally lifesaving medicine.
I had the honor of being asked to read an advance copy of Dr. Hansen’s book, Triumph over Trauma. As a member of the psychedelic’s industry (we supply naturally derived GMP psilocybin to researchers) I was keen to read it. Dr. Hansen has delivered a wondered primer for those new to the exciting promise provided by psychedelics. He covers the history, misconceptions, misinformation and outright lies that have caused so many patients to have been deprived access these wonderful plant-based compounds. He underscores the urgent need for alternative treatments in a world facing multiple crises: “a mental health crisis; a suicide crisis; an addiction crisis; a spiritual crisis; a wellness crisis; an abuse crisis; a pill-popping crisis; a HEALING crisis.” Through the in-depth history lesson and the sharing of intimate stories from people with actual psychedelic experiences, the book provides a comprehensive look into how psychedelics can address these crises. I have often said that as participants in psychedelic medicine, we are in the “industry of hope,” hope for a normal life, able to look forward to living your life. It is my opinion that traditional treatment of mental health patients is too often focused on making them easier to life with, not making their lives better. Psychedelics offer the promise of a normal life. I recommend this book whether you are new to psychedelics or if you have already been immersed in it.
Dr. Randall Hansen's book is exactly what modern society needs right now to guide our curiosity about psychedelics. The book provides a comprehensive collection of information about the various psychedelic medicines accessible to us, with their history, chemistry, research, and reports of profound healing. As humankind becomes more aware that the pharmaceutical companies we used to look to for the solutions are simply not able to reach the root causes of our afflictions, Dr. Hansen's book demonstrates that in many cases psychedelics and psychedelic therapies are proving to be more effective than pharmaceutical medications. No matter our race or heritage, our ancestors used psychedelic plant medicines for countless generations, and some cultures on Earth still do. This book is a reminder to all of us that our ancestral wisdom of psychedelic medicines was not primitive or inferior. If we want to restore harmony to our health, our communities, and our environment, the use of psychedelics may be the greatest step forward to achieving those goals. I'm so glad to know this book will accelerate the safe and beneficial use of psychedelics, and in turn accelerate the paradigm shift that is so direly needed in the world.
Dr. Randall Hansen beautifully leverages the power of stories to show how psychedelics can heal. He emphatically rejects the daily cocktail of pills and embraces the mind-expanding effects of psychedelics. In an ever more isolated world, Dr. Hansen offers a space for individual stories, with broadly applicable lessons.
By laying the foundation on the basics of psychedelic medicines, Triumph Over Trauma provides readers the opportunity to fully empathize with the personal, human stories shared in the case studies. In this way, the book stays true to form of what healing and transformational journeys consist of: knowledge gathering, preparation, experience, and integration. I am confident that by the end of this book, you will feel a personal connection and gratitude toward at least one of the people who have shared their story. Any book that can elicit those feelings is a book worth reading.
